Program, Calendar & Fees

Parents who are considering the Montessori programme are doing so because of the unique benefits and advantages that it provides for the child at this wonderful stage in their development.

During the time spent in the Montessori programme, the child will learn and benefit from:

  • Enhanced independence
  • Problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Self-discipline
  • Consideration of others
  • High self-esteem
  • Respect for the environment
  • Love of learning
  • Enhanced powers of concentration
  • Good social skills
  • Solid skills for Language and Mathematics

The Curriculum Includes:
  • Pre-reading and Reading skills
  • Physical development through control and coordination exercises, fitness, ball skills and games.
  • Sensorial materials that enhance sense discrimination: visual, auditory, tactile, stereognostic.
  • Counting and Number concepts
  • A Music and Movement Programme which includes both creative and folk dance as well as the playing of percussion and melodic instruments.
  • Discovery, Creativity and Expression are fostered through Art and Craft, Drama, Singing, Poetry, Sound games and Free Play.
  • Cultural Subjects/Geography/History/ Botany/Zoology/Geology/Science experiments
  • Practical Life exercises and tasks that foster independence: pouring, polishing, dressing, weeding in the garden, sweeping, washing, etc.

Daily Programme
When children start at around age 3 years, they attend the Afternoon Class until they are well settled and ready to move to the Morning Class which is longer and where a higher degree of independence is desirable. The programme of activities is identical in both classes.

Around age 4 ½, we assess if that child is ready to engage in the expectations of the Extended Day programme. This is the normal and expected continuation of Montessori work, which consists of the more advanced language/mathematics/cultural lessons as well as a more specialized music programme.
If, at any stage, full-day attendance is required, younger children are also catered for in the afternoons in a much less structured way. They join in the lunchtime preparation and continue to have their own free choice for the remainder of the day.

Three Year Programme
Montessori Education is known for its benefits over the full 3 year developmental period from age 3-6. The child aged 3 and 4 is being indirectly prepared for the spontaneous “flowering” which occurs naturally between ages 5 – 6 ½. In the third year a child will have entered into self –discipline, concentration and social graces during the period of greatest sensitivity for acquiring these abilities. The child will have followed a natural path of progression without interruption.
